The Opportunity

This role provides thought-leadership and execution support across all stages of the venture development process (i.e., ideation through product development and launch) by developing a deep understanding of new concepts and evaluating their potential in market by assessing their value propositions, developing a viable business model and aligning with 1848 Ventures' strategic direction. As part of an agile, multi-disciplinarysquad, CommercialStrategy and Decision Scienceis acentral role in converting innovation concepts into successful businesses.

This role requires outstanding business acumen as well as meaningful experience performingearly stageopportunity assessments, designing business models, evaluating competitive and market dynamics, and modeling financial projections and economic returns. Energized by complex business issues, this individual thrives in new situations which require in-depth analysis, option identification, trade-off framing, and synthesis of recommendations to determine the commercial viability and market entry strategies of new ventures. S/he will also oversee the identification, vetting and development of partnerships to support the launch of these new ventures.

In this role, you'll get to:

Champion and facilitate decision quality best practices across all active projects to ensure high quality decisions throughout the 1848 Ventures portfolio

Facilitate and execute end to end valuation modeling activities throughout the 1848 Ventures portfolio, including the evaluation of the most impactful uncertainties for the Ventures we aim to launch.

Partner with concept development squads to develop hypothesis driven learnings plans focused on reducing, mitigating and/or hedging our key uncertainties

Facilitate development of market maps for the industries and customers we serve, and products we develop. This includes initial segmentation, sizes, major trends, business models, and drivers

Conduct competitive and partnership landscape assessments, including identification of key market players, existing business model, market engagement/reach and other major market inroads and barriers

Assess build risk at each stage of the innovation funnel to ensure key uncertainties are tested

Facilitate development of compelling alternatives (concept ideas, business model options, pricing options, etc.) to drive high quality decisions

Conduct ad hoc analysis to support make vs. buy decisions and to optimize portfolio efficiency

Lay groundwork for market expansion - Support new customer identification and engagement as part of venture scaling

What you need for this role:

MBA with strong academic performance, and demonstrated experience (3+years) in a professionalservicesfirm engaged in mergers and acquisitions,early stageopportunity analysis, corporate innovation, and growth strategy projects or someone withrelevantexperience with a corporate strategy, corporate development, or product developmentbackground

Proven experience leveraging awide range of quantitative methodsto analyze complex, multi-faceted businessproblems

Outstanding verbal, writing and presentation skills

Ability to structure problems, conduct analyses and articulaterecommendations

Methodical and logical thinker with strong attention to detail and quality

Excellence in complex business model development, scenario planning, and forecasting, with a depth of experience using Excel as abaseline

Financial Planning & Analysis(FP&A)backgrounds preferred
