We currently have multiple opportunities for Industrial / Organizational Psychologists to join our team in Dayton, OH, at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), working with our customer at 711th Human Performance Wing. The focus of this effort is to improve USAF's ability to screen military applicants and assign qualified personnel to appropriate training specialties. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing area of research.
Essential Job Functions:
Plan and execute applied research studies focused on improving current and future Air Force personnel selection and classification systems. This includes conducting psychometric evaluations, performing subgroup analyses, and identifying gaps in current and future job requirements.
Conduct statistical analyses using R programming language.
Produce technical reports and presentations detailing research efforts, results, and conclusions.
Provide recommendations to customers and other stakeholders.
Coordinate with team members, customers, and other stakeholders.
Present research findings at conferences and other venues as appropriate.
Job Functions of Specific Projects to which you Might be Assigned:
Manage a research effort examining a recently-developed Situational Judgment Test for Airmen selection and classification. This includes determining the effects that alternate scoring methods have on its construct validity, reliability, and subgroup score differences.
Manage a research effort examining the psychometric properties of a recently-developed personality test. This includes creating standard scores for alternate test forms, designing subgroup norms and look-up tables, conducting predictive validation studies, and preparing a comprehensive test manual.
Manage test development efforts. This includes item writing, planning and overseeing data collection, item analysis, and scoring.
Conduct research identifying aptitude requirements for USAF Space Operations personnel. Among other tasks, this will require collecting and analyzing survey data from job incumbents to determine job requirements.
Due to the sensitivity of customer requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
At least an MS degree in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology, or a related technical discipline and at least 1 year of related development experience. (We have multiple levels associated with this opportunity category. Candidates with varying degree and experience combinations may be considered for alternative classifications).
Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information: ability to obtain and retain a minimum of a SECRET U.S. DoD security clearance.
Expertise in large-scale test development and validation.
Expertise in test scoring procedures (e.g., cutoff scores, weighting of multiple predictors).
Expertise in in personnel measurement and selection, including job analyses, person-job fit, adverse impact and the statistical analyses associated with detecting adverse impact (CTT / IRT), and various assessment measures such as personality tests and cognitive ability tests.
Expertise with Situational Judgment Tests. Candidates without this expertise can be selected to work on other projects.
Proficiency in performing Classical Test Theory (CTT) and Item Response Theory (IRT) analyses in R programming language. Types of statistical analyses include (but are not limited to): Hierarchical Regression / Multiple Regression, Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analyses, Structural Equations Modeling, Analysis of Variance, Differential Item Functioning, and dichotomous and polytomous IRT models.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual collaboration software (e.g. Microsoft Teams).
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative virtual team environment with a geographically-distributed team.
Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts, research findings, and recommendations to a broader audience of stakeholders including lay-people.
Experience documenting research results, writing research proposals, technical presentations, and technical reports.
