POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):


Position Overview:

Reports to the Academic Manager. In conjunction with the Academic Manager, coordinates and manages the Evening/Weekend Studies Program that offers after-hours activities that strengthen and build on students' academic skills. Plans and prepares instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals. Instructs students in the areas of grammar, reading, writing, and speaking, listening, pronunciation to help our students gain academic, career technical training, and independent living skills that will prepare them for career readiness (employment), advanced training, and/or advanced career training (college).

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Provides academic instruction to students to enhance learning from approved academic education curriculum.

Supports struggling students defined as those who have not yet earned a high school diploma or equivalency or attained an Educational Functioning Level (EFL) 5 in Reading and /or EFL 6 in Math on the Test of Adult and Basic Education (TABE) 11/12. Also, students who are not making adequate progress on Training Achievement Record completion are candidates for this program.
Teaches study skills.
Monitor's student progress. Ensures students are well prepared for tests/assessments. Test results are documented and recorded using Student Testing System (STS) in the Center Information System (CIS).
Determines the need and provides targeted training in reading skills and provide feedback to the student.
Provides personal and academic counseling to students.
Provides instruction in life skills such as digital literacy.
Provides enrichment activities that directly impact training-day goals and that prepare students for life-long learning.
Controls the use of materials and equipment that supports student learning.
Incorporate applied academics into the Evening/Weekend Studies Program/curriculum.
Assists with the planning and scheduling of courses for the Evening/Weekend Studies Program.
Measures the progress of students through observation and the administration of oral and written tests.
Makes recommendations concerning future studies and training needs.
Tutor's students or arranges for tutoring provided by volunteers or outside educational agencies.
Maintains up-to-date skills in field of specialty through available sources such as publications, formal study programs, and in-service training.
Participates in the student employability certification process.
Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
Acts as a responsible custodian for assigned center property.
Report's violations of ethical behavior.
Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste.
Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Associates Degree preferred.
Two to three years of related experience and/or training.
Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in instruction (analytical thinking, problem-solving, technology integration, communication and evaluation of information).
Ability to evaluate personnel under management and make recommendations regarding disciplinary actions, promotions, and/or merit increases.
Participation in PRH-mandated staff training mandatory; failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer proficiency.
