The Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a Director of Faculty Affairs to serve as the department's centralized resource for advancing faculty success in the clinical, education and research missions. In this position, the candidate will establish standards for faculty recruitment, selection, onboarding and development within the Department of Internal Medicine. The selected individual will facilitate a culture of excellence to increase faculty engagement to aid in improved retention, performance and satisfaction.

Essential Functions

Develop principles and tools for faculty recruiting and ensure high standards throughout the department. Create robust policies and procedures based on internal and external best practices.
Oversee high profile and senior-level faculty recruits and joint spousal/partner hires. Coordinate with the College of Medicine (COM), UC Health and other areas of campus for an efficient and seamless hiring process.
Create guidelines for screening, interviewing and evaluating candidates. Advance the university's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Ensure clarity among department and division leadership in defining annual recruitment needs and individual candidate attributes.
Engage with department and division leadership to source candidates through a variety of recruitment techniques, including print advertising, direct mail, specialty specific lists and similar resources.
Maintain a database of applicants and faculty candidates to track recruiting activity. Foster excellence in faculty affairs by monitoring key performance indicators. Present results to department leadership and work collaboratively to develop strategies to further improve faculty success.
Interact with health system to ensure early success of clinical programs. Include research administration in onboarding process for identified faculty to reduce time between initial hire and early milestones of research activity.
Serve as a department resource on the appointment, reappointment, promotion and tenure processes and support career development goals.
Provide or connect identified faculty with leadership coaching to improve performance.
Ensure department policies and practices promote a culture that values wellness, work-life balance and resiliency while also supporting innovation, productivity and career advancement. Connect faculty members to internal and external resources.
Interact with new faculty members, particularly during the first year of employment, to identify and remedy early warning signs. Connect at-risk faculty with available resources and communicates trends to division and department leadership.
Encourage departing faculty participation in COM exit interview process and provide feedback to HR regarding factors influencing retention.
Represent department at relevant COM, UC Health and university meetings or committees.
May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare or related field.

Required Experience

Seven (7) years of human resources, organizational development, executive coaching or other relevant work experience.
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and managerial skills.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Master's Degree.
Experience in academic medicine.
Experience and/or certification in executive coaching.
Prior experience with recruitment, onboarding and organizational development at a large institution.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
