About Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant

The Choice Neighborhoods program leverages significant public and private dollars to support locally driven strategies that address struggling neighborhoods with distressed public or HUD-assisted housing through a comprehensive approach to neighborhood transformation. Local leaders, residents, and stakeholders, such as public housing authorities, cities, schools, police, business owners, nonprofits, and private developers, come together to create and implement a plan that revitalizes distressed HUD housing and addresses the challenges in the surrounding neighborhood. The program helps communities transform neighborhoods by revitalizing severely distressed public and/or assisted housing and catalyzing critical improvements in the neighborhood, including vacant property, housing, businesses, services, and schools.

Woodhill Homes: The Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority and the City of Cleveland were awarded a $35 million FY 2020 Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant for the Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhood. Since securing a Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant award in 2018, the Housing Authority, City, and community partners have made significant strides toward their goals, with the first phases of new mixed-income housing on the horizon. Now through the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant, Buckeye-Woodhill can realize its full potential. The grantee and their partners will: create 800 new, mixed-income rental units; a new health clinic, early childhood education center, and retail space on a commercial corridor; rehab owner-occupied housing and infill vacant lots; and connect residents to employment, health, early learning, and education opportunities.

Community Life is TCB's place-based model that uses stable housing as a platform for connecting families, seniors, and disabled households to community resources and opportunities. We engage residents in creating programs and building strategic partnerships with local stakeholders to create pathways to opportunities in early education, economic mobility, youth development, voting registration, health, and resident leadership. Community Life's goal is to create equitable access to community supports, resources, and opportunities for all residents so that everyone can thrive.

Position Description: The Education Coordinator is directly supervised by the Community Life Senior Manager. The Education Coordinator (FTE) will work closely with families to ensure that all Woodhill Homes students are connected and engaged with the educational opportunities associated with the Choice Neighborhood Implementation (CNI) grant. The role will manage data sharing agreements with education partners, as well as ensure clear, concise, and effective communication with all Woodhill families and students in efforts to offset the effect of current students attending 67 different schools.

Responsibilities include:

Work with the Community Life Research and Evaluation team to develop a logic model.

Meet with each family who has school-age children to collect consent forms and support educational goals for each child in the family.

Build and foster early education, and afterschool partners to ensure that interested families have easy access to these programs to benefits their children.

Coordinate and provide OST activities and summer programmatic opportunities for children and youth.

Manage all data-sharing agreements for CNI education people partners, including renewals, reporting requirements, and consent forms.

Lead and facilitate regular CNI education partner meetings to ensure efficient, effective, and collaborative efforts toward CNI education objectives

Serves as the go-to person for education-related programming, issues, needs, and serve as the primary point of contact for all CNI education partners

Assist CL Senior Manager in convening regular CNI people partner meetings

Work closely with the Data and Evaluations Coordinator to measure progress toward outcomes and ensure education goals, metrics, and outcomes are being met.

Participate in the collection of the CNI (Community Life Questionnaire) annual survey.

Support and provide technical assistance for CL case managers in all efforts related to education programming, engagement, outreach, etc.

Stay current with trends in education and engaging education professional development opportunities relevant to CNI education work

Keep CL Sr. Manager appraised of issues affecting and relating to educational progress.

In collaboration with CL Sr. Manager develop protocols, standards of practice, and complete quarterly and annual reports, and other reports as needed.

Serve as a liaison between TCB and CNI education partners.

Maintain required documentation.

Prioritize tasks and communicate progress, problems, and needs for additional support to CL Sr. Manager

Perform other project-related duties as needed.

Training and Experience required:

BA in Psychology, Education, or related field required. Master's degree in Education preferred.

Experience in community-based work.

Experience in an education setting

Experience in grassroots community outreach and organizing,

Knowledge and experience of working in diverse and low-income communities.

Excellent organization/planning, networking, relationship-building skills

Community-based research experience preferred.

Excellent organizational, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills.

Strong personal initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work independently required.
