Optician/Low Vision Professional
 
Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley is a nonprofit organization based in the Miami Valley of Ohio. We provide services and support for individuals with barriers to employment and independence.
 
Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley Vision Services has been an acknowledge low vision provider in the Miami Valley for over 20 years.  We partner with the state funded agencies to work with individuals who are referred for low vision needs. Individuals with low vision or blindness have access to professional assessments and learning opportunities, allowing for personal growth and greater independence. Our services include Orientation and Mobility, Rehab Technology, Low Vision Assessments, and Vision Rehab Training.
 
GESMV is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an Optician/Low Vision Professional on our Vision Services team.
 
The Position
 
Assists individuals with their low vision needs by addressing the vision loss and how it impacts their daily living and/or work activities. Through this process, makes recommendations for equipment that meets each individual's needs. 
 
Essential Duties
 
  • Conduct functional low vision assessments and make recommendations for equipment and/or training.
  • Conduct low vision instruction/training to individuals who are visually impaired and blind utilizing the appropriate techniques.
  • Generate written reports for rehabilitation teaching and low vision assessment with an emphasis on recommendations.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with referral sources to ensure the needs of the persons referred to the Agency are met.

Requirements (At least one of the following)
 
Teacher for the Visually Impaired, TVI licensed by the Ohio Department of Education
ACVREP Certification, CVRT or CLVT
Ohio State Licensed Optician
Doctor of Optometry, OD
Occupational Therapists, OT with graduate certificate in vision rehabilitation or low vision
