Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Principal Process Engineer - EPDM
This is a key role for our facility and product line in Milan, OH. This is a true process engineering role focused on improving product efficiencies and quality. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and analytical ability to monitor, identify, and implement process improvements throughout the facility.
The Milan, Ohio plant, located just outside of Sandusky Ohio, is an Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) Roofing Systems manufacturing facility. EPDM is a synthetic rubber single ply roofing membrane known for its durability, ease of installation and superior weathering characteristics.
Your Day to Day:
Understand EPDM process from a formulation standpoint to include mixing and producing pellets for the operation.
Data analysis of process input parameters using SPC to control and establish correlation of Key Process Input Variables (KPIV's) to Key Process Output Variables (KPOV's)
Participate in the continuous improvement of product quality, which will include a firm understanding of customer, CTQ's, manufacturing process capability, and development of semi-finish and finish product specifications.
Contributes to product quality improvements
Maintain safety, product quality, and manufacturing effectiveness through daily troubleshooting and resolution of Process difficulties.
Support and understand interactions between equipment process versus formulations and conditions that change.
Understand raw materials associated with EPDM rubber to include, incoming material variances, internal process variances and correlations between these and processing.
Understand process and formulations variances surrounding the curing process of EPDM once it is produced, processed and cured.

What You Bring to the Team:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Min 10 years of engineering experience in manufacturing environment.
Experience utilizing data driven methodologies initiatives (i.e. Six Sigma, RCCA)
Experience in rubber mixing and pelletizing
Experience continuous improvement with ability to analyze data and translate findings for operational improvements - including SPC
Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to climb stairs & ladders, lift up to 50lbs, access confined spaces, extensive walking and exposure to hot/cold.
Ability to work after hours as needed.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (polymer preferred)
EPDM manufacturing process
Experience in training and imparting technical process requirements/knowledge to employees
Working knowledge of rubber-based roller head die extrusion/calendaring
Rheology testing and interpretation experience
Autoclave curing experience
Rubber based extrusion modeling experience
Rubber formulation chemistry development
Six Sigma or lean manufacturing experience.
