Based in our Elyria, Ohio location, you will have theopportunity to be part of the team developing the worlds premier brand of professional grade plumbing and pipe working tools! Youwill be able to experience and contribute to a broad range of engineering functions in an industrial product manufacturing company. Your assignments will be focused on assisting in the design and development of electronic circuit boards utilizing embedded microcontrollers which willinclude an introduction to microcontroller embedded software programming. Your work assignments will also include exposure to the following areas based on the students level of academic achievement:
Engineering Lab Exposure to a variety of electronic instrumentation and test equipment. The student will work closely with lab technicians and engineers to assist in conducting hands-on testing of electronic circuit board-controlled tools. This will also include learning to build prototype circuit boards employing through hole and surface mount (SMT) components.
Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Exposure to the latest computer-aided engineering technology used in the schematic capture and layout of printed circuit boards.
Product Engineering More in-depth exposure to the new product development process working closely with product development engineers on new projects. This will include, but not limited to, engineering analysis, failure analysis, embedded microcontroller software programming and PC platform programming utilizing C programming language. The student will gain an increased understanding of all the steps in the process to develop a robust product that meets the customers requirements.
AS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP, YOU WILL:
Assist with setting up and conducting tests and gathering data while learning to use electronic test equipment
Build prototype circuit boards and electronic equipment learning through hole and surface mount soldering skills
Analyze test data and learn data analysis techniques
Write test lab reports
Learn to use CAD (Altium) for schematic capture and PCB layout
Use CAD to create new design concepts and detail drawings of embedded circuit boards
Assist engineers in product development and sustaining engineering activities related to development of embedded systems
Learn to troubleshoot problems and develop creative solutions
Have a final work period which will includea design project where student is responsible for conceptual design, necessary computations, CAD layout, drawing generation, coordinating prototype build, testing and debugging design for assigned project
Give a final presentation to VP Engineering, engineering leaders and engineering staff to report on activities and what was learned from assignments
