Job Description
Purpose
The Research Assistant/Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in support of human factors related automotive safety research programs. Tasks may include assisting with research and testing, conducting literature searches, data management, recruiting participants, obtaining consents, maintaining files, scheduling and conducting interviews, maintaining data collection files, performing data reduction, assisting with data analysis, and generating correspondence, reports and graphics.
The Research Assistant/Technician provides technical support for research scientists and engineers and customers working in such areas as research, design, or development testing. Position level is determined by the knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to duties assigned.
Essential Functions*
Support conduct of experiments through activities such as participant recruitment, participant handling, and data management
Perform data processing and simple data analysis with direction
Organize and review documentation and record/report activities and data accurately
Ensure high quality customer deliverables
Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions)
Communicate directly with customers and clarify their needs and expectations
Set up, monitor, operate, and maintain test equipment with instruction
Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts
Qualifications
High school diploma is required
Associate’s degree in a technology discipline or behavioral field is preferred
Good attention to detail required
Valid driver’s license
Excellent communication skills
Basic computer skills
Perform assigned technical tasks in a timely manner, as requested
Perform job duties with discretion and professionalism
Ability to treat as highly confidential, all study data and information collected
Working conditions
Standard office, climate controlled environment
Standard laboratory environment
Occasional support of outdoor testing in good weather
May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degree and above 95 degrees
May be exposed to inclement weather
Physical requirements
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
Ability to enter data into a computer (hand/finger dexterity)
Data reduction involves visual review of data (ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth) and listening (ability to hear and interpret real-time audio)
Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
Ability to communicate with customers and co-workers
