UC Libraries supports undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs at UC and includes the Walter C. Langsam Library, the Archives and Rare Books Library, the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library and eight college and department libraries serving applied science, architecture, art, biology, chemistry, classics, design, education, engineering, geology, health sciences, mathematics, music, physics, and planning. Other libraries at UC include the Blue Ash Library, Clermont College Library and the Law Library.

Job Overview


Work closely with subject selectors and other Content Services staff to acquire material necessary to support the learning, instruction, and research mission of the University of Cincinnati Libraries. Provide support for data analysis and functional aspects of acquisitions.

Essential Functions



Participate in improving workflows and systems that facilitate acquisitions, access, and management of library acquired collection resources both print and electronic.
Assist in managing, configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting data transfer and tracking systems for batch processes in acquisitions.
Provide data analysis support for selector collection decisions. Generate and manage serial renewal spreadsheet. Gather serials usage statistics, extract and organize data, and create reports for print, electronic, and digital library resources for assessment.
Participate in collections acquisitions workflows. Working with selectors, order library materials in both print and online format and in all languages from U.S. and international sources. Complete processes for tracking material and claiming or re-ordering.
Provide training and support to help library-wide selectors and staff achieve efficient use of acquisitions associated tools. Create documentation for policies and procedures.
Liaise with library vendors to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with orders, technical specifications, data exchange, record loads and management of resources provided by their systems.
Perform quality control on order records to maintain accuracy, including cancellations, reordering, and claiming materials. Work with business office to provide proof of payment. Correspond with vendors and publishers as needed.
Perform other duties based on operational needs, projects, and alignment with strategic initiatives, including providing unit backup and cross training. Support team by engaging in forward-looking projects and emerging workflows such as experimental acquisitions methods and tools, and development of new acquisitions workflows.

Required Education



Bachelor's Degree.
Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience


Two (2) years of relevant experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered



Experience in technical services library work.
Skilled in technology used in library operations, such as library management systems, FTP, EDIFACT, and website ordering.
Familiar with library data standards, e.g., MARC records.
Proficiency with MS Office and Windows software, especially knowledge of Excel and ability to gather and analyze data.
Ability to read, understand, analyze, interpret, and manipulate data in a variety of formats.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, organization and time management, and attention to detail.
Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively. Ability to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment


Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
