About the Department

The Warren Bennis Leadership Initiative is a two-year commitment to build the infrastructure and launch an interdisciplinary leadership institute in 2023. Our vision for WBLI is as follows: Transforming leaders for a better tomorrow by harnessing the legacy of Warren Bennis who believed leaders were made, not born.

Our mission is to elevate the leadership capacity of rising leaders through interdisciplinary, evidence-based, and experiential programming. WBLI serves to showcase and align leadership initiatives as well as create new opportunities for leadership development. Job Overview

The Assistant Director for WBLI will partner with the WBLI Academic Director to develop and implement leadership development experiences uniquely customized to University of Cincinnati undergraduate and graduate students. Examples may include leadership workshops, training programs, book series, the annual Warren Bennis Leadership Experience and a podcast.

The Assistant Director will engage with the Academic Advisory Group to create a university-wide model for student leader development. The Assistant Director will align leader development with the guidelines provided by the Carnegie Foundation's Elective Classifications process including assessment of student learning, curricular and co-curricular offerings, and impact. The Assistant Director will collaborate with the Academic Director in developing strategy, long-range planning, and partnerships both internally and externally.

The Assistant Director will be under the general supervision of the WBLI Academic Director and will generally assist with the administration and direction of the interdisciplinary Leadership Initiative/Institute. The Assistant Director may teach a course, facilitate seminars or workshops, and supervise staff. Additionally, the Assistant Director may establish a coaching pilot program for UC Students.

Working from home 1-2 days a week is optional.

Essential Functions

Assist with development, implementation and administration of goals to achieve strategic objectives; assume management responsibility for a wide range of projects/tasks associated with primary business operations and/or corporate relations that have significant impact within the business function.
Develop internal policies, procedures, controls, and manage processes to increase internal business and/or external corporate partnerships; responsible for policy execution and results that enrich the Institute, the campus and the university; consults with Director on major policy changes affecting other departments.
May be responsible for coordinating a function or program(s) with significant impact on external relations. May be responsible for collaborating efforts with administrative and academic units (i.e., Public Relations, Academic Colleges, Foundation, etc.) to enhance business/community partnerships.
Assist with preparation of annual unit operating budget recommendations; develop, implement and monitor assigned budgets; limited signature authority for purchases and payroll.
Prepare reports, disseminate/interpret information, provide advice, write proposals, deliver presentations, construct contractual agreements, and ensure that all programs and services comply with university, state and federal regulations.
Communicate and assist students, parents, corporate partners resolve questions and complex issues; represent the university internally and externally.
Assist with administrative leadership and supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff; hire, orient, train, mentor and evaluate assigned staff; monitor and coordinate staff development and training programs.
Serve on various university, division and departmental committees and may represent the department at various state and national associations; may function for the Director or Associate Director in his/her absence, as required.
Develops, implements, administers, and evaluates programs by: conducting research activities within the program, analyzing data, creating reports, reviewing trends, and making program improvement recommendations.
Develops and implements strategies related to outreach, events, communications, development, partnerships and fundraising/funding.
May be responsible for grant preparation and submission or research administration.
May teach a course, seminar or workshop.
Perform related duties based on Institute need.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree with five(5) years experience; -OR-Associate's degree with seven (7) years experience; -OR-nine (9) years experience. Degree must be in a related field; experience must be related.
Experience also requires at least three (3) years supervision.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Master's degree in related field.
Previous experience in Higher Education.
Experience in student leadership/organizational leadership training is ideal.
Past teaching experience will also be considered.

Competitive salary range of $55,000 - $65,000 dependent on the candidate's experience.
