Job Description
Position: Industrial/Manufacturing Electrician
Sonoco is seeking a high-caliber industrial/manufacturing electrician for our steel food & aerosol can manufacturing plant in Columbus, Ohio.
This position has a starting pay of $37.89 per hour (change to $39.78 starting 1/1/23), and our benefits begin day 1 of hire
Schedule: 4x4 schedule rotation, 12 hour shifts.
Shift: Day or Night shift available
Primary Purpose of Position:
Support electrical components of automated, high-speed, manufacturing equipment plant-wide.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Mentors department technicians to promote and maintain a culture of safety and respect.
Trains and develops department technicians' technical knowledge.
Troubleshoots, adjusts, and repairs all electrical equipment including: three phase motors, VFDs,and motor starters; PLCs and HMIs; and various proximity sensors and limit switches
Performs preventative maintenance on assigned electrical systems and equipment.
Identifies inefficiencies and potential electrical problems and coordinates through supervisor to resolve.
May assist or lead in the design, experimentation, and/or installation of all new plant equipment or electrical production procedures.
Handles stress well and interacts with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Communicates effectively, writes effectively, reads, comprehends and follows complicated verbal and written instructions.
Assures and maintains safe and healthful working conditions while enforcing safety rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience working in an industrial electrical, multicraft, or otherwise similar maintenance role.
Experience using PLCs to troubleshoot machine problems
Experience working with 3 phase motors, VFDs, and relays
A strong working knowledge of using a digital multi-meter and other instruments to troubleshoot circuits and components.
The ability to effectively read and interpret electrical schematics.
Must possess own tools
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience programing Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs
Experience programing Allen Bradley and/or Red Lion HMIs
Experience in working with Allen Bradley servos
An in depth knowledge of RSLinx and industrial communication protocols; primarily Ethernet IP, and to a lesser extent, Data Highway Plus (DH+), Device Net, Profibus, Profinet, and RS 232/485.
Associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technologies or otherwise similar degree/certification
