Job Description

Mount Vernon City Schools

• Information Technology System Administrator
• Shift is for eight hours per day with ½ hour unpaid lunch (shift hours may fluctuate beyond non-school hours (after 4pm))
• This is a school year position and will be contracted to work 260 days
• Twelve (12) month position (follows the 12 month Classified staff work calendar)
(Work calendars are subject to change in the event of calamity days or changes agreed upon by the Administration and Union)

• A minimum of an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other network technology related area
• A minimum of five years of proven computer networking experience.
• Certifications in: CompTIA, Microsoft Certifications (e.g. MCSA), Network +, Security +
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge and Ability to provide Tier 1, 2, and 3 Network Support
Preferred Certifications: Veeam, VMware, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and/or Google Workspace Administrator

• Familiarity with educational technology and the unique challenges of supporting a school district’s network.
• Have the knowledge and ability to provide Tier 1, 2, and 3 Network Support
• Understanding of implementation of key networking principles; DHCP, DNS, NAC, VPN, Veeam, VMWARE,vCenter, firewall, security, routing protocols, subnets, VLANs, WANs, wireless LANS, dual ISP, multicast, unicast, POE, VOIP, and Radius Server.
• Experience with the networking aspect of video streaming & surveillance data (i.e. in buildings and school buses(e.g. Wisenet and Provision Software)
• Experience with Cisco networking equipment (Servers, Switches, and Wifi) and Filtering (Cisco Umbrella).
• Experience working with Microsoft Windows Active Directory and Azure.
• Experience supporting a SIP and VOIP system
• Experience supporting Nimble Data Storage systems
• Experience with server and switch management.
• Must be able to maintain and troubleshoot district wide wireless systems in collaboration with our ITC (Cisco Meraki).
• Understanding of Google Workspace for Education (i.e Google Admin Console).
• Experienced with Unix, Powershell, Linux, Apple iOS, server, automation, web design/editing, data storage and backup systems and Windows server solutions.
• Ability to use technology to complete daily and assigned tasks appropriate for the position
• Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and insured vehicle for onsite repairs.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds without assistance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently on projects and manage time well
• Strong written and oral communication
• Ability to collaborate and contribute to other work within the department (I.e. Helpdesk Tickets and Setup and Teardown of events within the district related to Technology).

Responsibilities/Job Tasks:
A. Customer Service:
• Provide excellent customer service
• Timely and courteous communication
• Provide technical support to end-users
• Troubleshoot and resolve system issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
• Assist in giving facility access to employees through Key Fob System
• Assist in Hardware and Software Installations.
B. Supporting our Network Infrastructure:
• Direct day-to-day network technology operations
• Evaluates and installs patches and resolves related problems.
• Automates as many network maintenance tasks as possible.
• Monitors/Troubleshoots/Maintains and Coordinates & Implements Updates all district networking servers, switches, Nimbles, other related hardware and software (vCenter/Vmware).
• Troubleshoot issues that arise with the district data infrastructure
• Maintain open communication to the whole technology team regarding any items related to the network.
• Monitors/maintains/Updates LAN/WAN/VLAN performance information.
• Ensures the security, integrity, and selective hardening of these systems while simultaneously preserving the primary mission of K-12 education.
• Document network configurations, procedures, and issue resolutions
• Helps identify and execute efficiencies in process and implementation of district systems.
• Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure
• Develop and maintain technical documentation
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues
• Procure network equipment and manage subcontractors involved with network installation
• Performs duties of LAN administrator
• Continues to keep all hardware and software on the network updated
• Maintains/documents LAN system integrity
• Diagnoses and seeks resolution of LAN circuit problems
• Completes installation of computer/network equipment in collaboration with the appropriate parties (i.e. ITC, Subcontractor/s, Independently, or with other stakeholders)
C. Prevention and Growth:
• Plans, designs, and implements district wide data network and telecommunication systems to facilitate growth and establish foundations for new systems.
• Proactively manages and monitors the health of the data network and all sub systems
• Proactively tries to improve the technology infrastructure of the entire school district
• Recognizes and communicates new developments in information systems technology, and anticipates implication to district operations.
• Plans for disaster recovery of all operations relative to the network infrastructure.
• Devise preventive solutions/processes to issues
• Collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure system reliability, scalability, and security
• Backup/restore processes of various systems(i.e. Veeam, VMware, and Nimble Snapshots)

Professional Growth:
• Maintains professional and technical certifications required to support daily operations, and actively engages in lifelong learning in this dynamic field.
• Collaborate and share knowledge with other Technology Department Personnel
• Attends department meetings, department (and appropriate districtwide) inservice and training programs
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies, network security, and other network best practices.
Other Responsibilities:
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Director of Technology or his/her designee.
• Drives to all facilities within the school district and sometimes to our ITC.

• Commensurate with experience and negotiated agreement
