Job Description

Purpose

The Impact Lab is seeking an Engineering Technician to join the team within the crash test laboratory. This Engineering Technician would be responsible for setting up, executing, and tearing down crash and impact simulation tests.

Essential Functions*

Receiving and inspecting test articles.

Setting up and executing impact simulation tests including (sled parameter setup, test article installation, instrumentation installation, high speed camera installation, and conduct of impact simulation tests).

Setting up and executing crash tests including (vehicle prep, instrumentation installation, high speed camera operation, and conduct of full scale crash tests).

Read and understand test plans provided by project operations group and customer test plans with crash and sled test info/parameters.

Assist with taking measurements with 3D Coordinate Measurement Machine (FARO).

Operate and collect data with high speed data aqusiiton systems.

Operate and collect video with high speed imagers.

Maintain and document maintenance schedules on crash and impact simulation equipment.

Ensure clear, accurate communication of the status and results of the above activities; ensure that results meet or exceed customer quality expectations.

Work with customers and engineering staff on crash and sled testing activities.

Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines.

Support establishment of crash and sled testing procedures and training.

Support TRC ISO/IEC 9001 and 17025 standards.

Write requisitions for supplies and materials needed for the crash barrier, vehicle preparation area, and the impact simulation test area.

Read and understand work instructions.

Completion of projects in a timely, error-free and competitive manner.

Work in a team or individually to reach project goals.

Critically evaluate and correct deficiencies in operations, plans, and reports.

Make technical decisions with minimal assistance.

Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts.

Qualifications

High school diploma is required

Associates degree in a technology discipline is preferred

Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills

Technical knowledge to solve tough substantive, work-related problems

Excellent computer skills including word processing software

Practical knowledge and experience of mechanical and/or electronics applications

Practical knowledge of science or engineering

Proficient in the use of test equipment, tools and machinery, and/or welding equipment and electronics

Valid driver’s license

Working Conditions

Standard office, climate controlled environment

Standard laboratory, climate controlled environment

Exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather

May be exposed to hazardous chemicals such as gas, oil, and paint

May be required to wear respiratory, hearing, head and hand protection equipment

Physical Requirements

Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds

Capable of positioning one’s self into bending, stretching, climbing, or awkward positions

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
