We have a great opportunity for a Water Treatment Technician, working as a member of a team or alone, under the guidance of a Supervisor, provides for the safe operation of water facilities in compliance with federal, state, local and Company requirements for the operation of water treatment, distribution, and storage facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Responsible for safe and effective startup, shutdown, operation, maintenance, and monitoring and/or control of all water treatment plant equipment and processes, to include plant generators and electrical controls and various distribution system equipment and processes.
Ensures that daily work complies with Ohio EPA and Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO regulatory requirements for operations. Ensures that daily work complies with all established company safety policies. Captures all work performed in Maintenance Connection, an asset management program, per Company policies.
Manually and/or via SCADA system, Operates, maintains, reads, interprets, and records as directed all instruments at the plant and at various remote locations. Makes necessary adjustments to treatment processes and/or pumping to maintain water quality standards.
Works with Marion Water Treatment Plant personnel to monitor and/or control SCADA system for effective operation of the Marion Water System. Reacts accordingly to various pumping schemes, main breaks, and operational changes and advises supervisors on potential emergencies.
Performs assigned lab testing (wet chemistry), and sampling as directed in accordance with Ohio EPA certification requirements.
Performs assigned inspections of water treatment plant apparatus and equipment as directed. Assists the Division Mechanic with routine and emergency maintenance of facilities as required.
Communicates records and maintains relevant information regarding treatment plant operation and maintenance.
Performs housekeeping duties as assigned and assures the security of water utility structures and property.
Acts as liaison between customers and company during "off" hours; Answers and directs all after-hour customer inquiries to the appropriate personnel. Demonstrates effective communication skills and regularly addresses internal and external customer requirements and serves as the after-hours point of contact and dispatch for emergencies within the distribution system(s).
Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned
Starting pay is $25.11 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a high school diploma or the GED equivalent.
Candidate must hold valid U.S. driver's license.
Must be available for emergency work after regular working hours, weekends, holidays, and for scheduled training and necessary overtime.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be proficient at using computers and Window based applications.
Must obtain and or maintain the following certifications in accordance time frame and conditions established within Article IX, Section 1-3 of the Bargaining Union agreement:
- Provisional Laboratory Approval - 2 months from date of appointment
- Operational Laboratory Certification - 6 months after receipt of provisional Certification
- Class I Water certificate - 2 years from date of appointment
- Class II Water Certificate - 4 years from date of appointment
- Class III Water Certificate - 6 months after the date eligible to take the exam
Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally) with internal customers
Strong customer service skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Must have a satisfactory work record (no more than one disciplinary occurrence in last three years).
Company may require the employee to pass reasonable tests--oral, written or practical--to determine his/her qualifications.
May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and/or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions.
Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents (if applicable)
