As a member of the Data Engineering team, the Mid-Level Data Engineer provides hands-on engineering and technical expertise for our data projects and solutions. The successful Data Engineer will research and implement data management technologies to build scalable data pipelines, storage solutions, and processing systems. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, designing and implementing data architecture solutions, and ensuring data quality and accessibility across the organization. You will work in an agile/scrum environment and contribute to the successful implementation of data-driven solutions.



Essential Functions

As a Data Engineer at Woolpert, you will:

Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Design, build, and maintain efficient data pipelines using ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from various sources
Implement and optimize database solutions using both SQL and NoSQL technologies
Develop and maintain data processing workflows using cloud-based services and tools
Write high-quality, maintainable code in .NET, Node.js, or Python, to support data transformation needs
Create and improve APIs for data access and integration with front-end applications
Implement data validation, quality checks, and monitoring to ensure data integrity
Document data architecture, pipelines, and processes for knowledge sharing
Implement security best practices to protect sensitive data
Mentor junior team members and collaborate with other engineers to improve data systems
Follow agile methodologies and participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to provide data solutions that meet business needs



Minimum Requirements

5-6 years of experience in a data engineering role
Strong proficiency with relational database systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
Experience with cloud data stores and services (Azure Data Lake, AWS S3, Google BigQuery)
Demonstrated experience in ETL/ELT processes and tools (SSIS, Apache Airflow, Talend)
Working knowledge of programming languages (.NET, Node.js, or python) for data manipulation
Experience with HTML and front-end technologies for data visualization integration Understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling
Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines
Experience with data quality management and validation procedures
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders



Preferred Skills and Abilities

Strong understanding of Data flows, Date Structures and ACID in data transactions.
Experience with .NET development (Visual Basic / C#) and related data technologies
Familiarity with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark)
Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
Experience with real-time data streaming platforms (Kafka, Azure Event Hubs)
Background in data modeling and database design optimization
Strong experience with MongoDB database design, optimization, and management
Experience with other NoSQL databases (Dynamo DB, Cassandra, Redis)
Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance requirements
Exposure to business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau)
Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
