POSITION SUMMARY

The Aspen Racquet Club is a new, state of the art tennis club in Wooster, OH, which opened its doors for business in January 2018. The club features six cushioned indoor tennis courts, well-appointed locker rooms, a pro-shop, and a mezzanine level observation deck as well as a fitness center. In addition to tennis, the club offers pickleball, table tennis, fitness and Golf Simulator.

The Head Tennis Professional is a full-time or part-time employee reporting directly to the Aspen Director of Tennis. His or her primary responsibilities will be to teach tennis private and group lessons, organize and manage club junior programs, and grow the club in Wooster and surrounding areas. In addition, the Head Tennis Professional will schedule activities and coordinate tennis, pickleball and general club programming. The Head Tennis Professional must have a dynamic personality, be flexible and have great communication skills. He or she must understand and execute Aspen branded programs that include USTA progressive red, orange, green, and yellow ball instruction and be responsible for member satisfaction through implementation of student-centered teaching. This position will require evening and weekend availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches tennis private lessons and group classes - monitors, demonstrates, and instructs students on proper technique, tactics, and strategies to improve overall tennis game
  • Support junior programming
  • Lead adult programming
  • Facilitate club USTA teams
  • Works with the Director of Tennis on developing marketing strategies to increase club revenue and efficiently manage tennis operations
  • Organizes, promotes, and supports club events, tournaments, and programs
  • Teaches pickleball private lessons and group classes
  • Coordinates with desk staff when necessary to ensure players participating in programs at the club are charged accurately and in a timely manner
  • String racquets
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of experience instructing tennis with focus a on adult and youth development
  • Advanced tennis skills, including competitive experience in adult and junior tennis
  • Current certification with either U.S. Professional Tennis Association (RSPA)/ Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) or willingness to certify
  • Strong leadership and enthusiasm for the game of tennis
  • Capacity to teach players of all ages and ability
  • Experience in organizing tournaments, team and league play, clinics, camps and special programs for members of all ages and ability
  • Strong marketing and organizational skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills; friendly, outgoing and positive attitude
  • Availability to teach during the evenings and weekends

MATH ABILITY

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discount interest commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Procedures are established but conditions change; initiative must be exercised to overcome minor obstacles.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must be able to learn and use various training and development software platforms to take content and develop in to effective training programs. Ability to use the internet to perform various types of research. Experience with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Outlook Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
