POSITION OVERVIEW SECTION

The employee will provide subject matter expertise to the USAFSAM Department of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM/FE), specifically the Aerospace Medicine Studies and Analysis Division (FES), Operational Support Team (FESO).

FESO supports Base Operational Support Teams in the field and is responsible for:

  • Program development and oversight
  • Data analysis and dashboard creation for musculoskeletal and mental health risk (down to the squadron level)
  • Education, training, and consultative support
  • Managing the Integrated Operational Support (IOS) training course at USAFSAM
  • Conducting data audits, research, and program evaluation

This requirement provides analyst research support within FESO to assist with studies, analysis, and reporting requirements.

Essential Job Functions


  • Data Analysis & Visualization
    • Coordinate with the AWARE (Analysis of Waiver Risk Evidence) data team to design, conduct, and lead visual/data analyses on health surveillance, medical records, and military records.
    • Employ advanced tools (Tableau, SAS Viya) to build interactive visualizations (graphs, charts, maps) for decision support.
    • Update, generate, and maintain visuals for the Air Force Recruiting Service/Aeromedical Waiver Division (AMWD) to track performance indicators (health risk reductions, ROI, utilization, etc.).
  • Research & Reporting
    • Draft, prepare, and present reports, documents, and technical briefings on studies and visual analytics.
    • Support scientific publication efforts as requested.
    • Assist in data collection for FESO's mission requirements.
  • Collaboration & Consultation
    • Provide consultation to AMWD on AWARE data products and related analytics.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders on complex data/technology issues and contribute to strategy development.
    • Interface with USAFSAM/FESO leadership and staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Master's degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Data Science, or Bioinformatics.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in area of expertise.
  • Advanced skills in population health, health data surveillance, and visual/data analysis.
  • Proven track record in designing, conducting, and leading analyses of health surveillance or military health records.
  • Proficiency with:
    • Tableau
    • Microsoft Office
    • SAS / SAS Enterprise Guide
  • Current HIPAA training (required for access to identified medical data).
  • Signed NDA prior to start (due to access to sensitive information).

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in health and visual analytics.
  • Prior work with Department of the Air Force (DAF) health data.
