Job Description

The Ross County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified and motivated individuals to serve as Corrections Officers. This role is responsible for maintaining safety, security, and order within the county law complex while directing and monitoring inmate activity and enforcing facility rules.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise inmates and maintain order withing the facility
  • Conduct routine inmate counts, searches, and inspections
  •  Enforce rules, policies, and procedures
  • Respond to emergencies, disturbances, and security incidents
  • Complete reports and maintain accurate documentation
  • Assist with reception and release processes
  •  Escort inmates to court, medical visits, and other locations


Minimum Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and a high school diploma or G.E.D.


Work hours are to be determined: facility operates on a 24/7 schedule with shifts to include 8am – 4pm, 4pm – 12am, 12am – 8am; may work evening, night, or rotating shift

Training & Development Required to Remain in Classification after Employment: mandatory & successful completion of Corrections Academy, First Aid/CPR

Pre-Hire Screening

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check, truth verification test, and medical evaluation. An individual assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.


All new hires must serve a one-year probationary period.

Salary
$27.55 - $32.72 /hour 
Starting wage $27.55 with a step increase each year to $32.72 in addition to yearly wage increases per union contract. Officer in charge and Field Training Officer hourly incentive pay available.
