Farmers Market Liaison


Healthy Roots Community (HRC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to building a vibrant local food system in Ashtabula County, seeks a Farmers Marketing Liaison to support and strengthen local farmers’ marketing through on-site engagement, coordination, and community outreach.


This is a part-time, non-exempt employee position expected to work up to 20 hours per week. The Liaison will play a key role in attending markets, supporting vendors and customers, and helping expand participation in local food programs. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The job may terminate in November at the end of the growing season, depending on the success of the program.


The Liaison will report to a designated supervisor and work closely with the HRC Board of Directors.


Key Responsibilities

•Attend and support local farmers markets on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends

•Serve as a point of contact for vendors, customers, and community members at market events

•Support participation in food access programs, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children, and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

•Promote markets and events through social media, email, and other communication channels

•Build and maintain relationships with farmers, partners, and community stakeholders

•Monitor and respond to community inquiries via email, phone, website, and social media

•Organize and maintain contact lists and shared organizational data

•Support fundraising, grant research, and community food initiatives as needed

•Other duties as assigned consistent with the role


Preferred Skills and Qualifications

•Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of community members

•Experience with farming, farmers markets, community organizing, and/or nonprofit work

•Ability to work independently in dynamic, community-based environments

•Strong organizational and time management skills

•Experience using social media platforms (including Facebook and Instagram) for outreach and event promotion

•Familiarity with SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP systems is a plus

•Experience with fundraising or grant administration is a plus

•Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), Zoom, and basic website or newsletter tools


Requirements

•Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

•Regular travel to farmers markets and community events throughout Ashtabula County is required.

•Ability to work evenings and weekends during farm season, including every Saturday and Sunday.


Compensation

•$20–30 per hour, depending on experience

•Position is part-time and non-exempt

•In-county travel mileage will be re-imbursed.
